Seaside Turtle

Turtles have been a favorite subject of mine to paint for some time. Although they have a rich history and meaning in many world religions, I also really just enjoy them. 😄

In Hawaiian mythology and folklore, they are regarded as symbols of good luck and protection, and wise guardians and protectors, deeply connected to the ocean. In various Native American cultures, they are known to carry the world on their backs and are regarded as symbols for Mother Nature.

They seem so wise and self sufficient, carrying their homes with them. They move on their timetable, indifferent to the stressful schedules we humans are so fond of. 

-Recently reworked with gold highlights, I felt this piece was worth revisiting.
