-Original Painting is 24" x 12" Acrylic on Studio Canvas
This painting was the first in my Gods & Monsters series, and holds special meaning for me.
I began it just before the Pandemic started in 2020, and it became a coping mechanism during those times. -It was an anchor, a discipline and a path, and led me to the other paintings in this series.
Dragons are mythological monsters, and every culture on earth has one in some form. Eastern and Asian dragons tend to be helpful and benign creatures, filled with wisdom and luck for whomever should meet one, whilst dragons in the Western world tend to be creatures of fire and flame, avarice and destruction.
Whether they be fire or ice, dragons are generally elemental creatures mystically tied to the land.
I did not yet have my other Gods & Monsters visualized, but this was the spark that sent me on looking for them.
My source reference was the dragon from a fantastic old film, 'The 7th Voyage of Sinbad' from 1958. I've loved this dragon ever since I was a kid, and was really bummed about the whole thing when he dies at the end of the movie. Check this movie out some day, -good times!!
